Itinerary
Day 0: Delhi to Kargil - The Journey Begins: Departure from Delhi in the evening (around 6:00 PM) from a centrally located point.. Overnight journey by comfortable AC Volvo/Tempo Traveler.. Dinner stop en-route (self-paid).. Enjoy the ride with fellow travelers and prepare for the adventure ahead.
Day 1: Kargil & Along the Suru River: Arrive in Kargil early morning, known for the 1999 war.. Visit the War Memorial, a poignant tribute to the soldiers.. Breakfast at a local restaurant.. Drive along the scenic Suru River towards Zanskar, passing through beautiful landscapes.. Check-in to your guesthouse/homestay in Panikhar.. Evening at leisure, explore the village.
Day 2: Karsha Monastery & Padum: After breakfast, visit Karsha Monastery, the largest monastery in Zanskar.. Explore the monastery’s intricate artwork and enjoy panoramic views.. Continue to Padum, the administrative center of Zanskar.. Check-in to your guesthouse/homestay in Padum.. Explore Padum market for local handicrafts and souvenirs.. Evening free to relax.
Day 3: Phuktal Monastery Trek: A highlight! Trek to Phuktal Monastery, dramatically perched on a cliffside (approx. 6-7 hours round trip). The trek is moderate.. Enjoy packed lunch amidst stunning scenery.. Explore the unique architecture and serene atmosphere of Phuktal Monastery.. Return to Padum in the evening.
Day 4: Stongde Monastery & Zanskar Valley Exploration: Visit Stongde Monastery, known for its impressive murals and statues.. Explore nearby villages and interact with the local Zanskari people.. Visit the local school (subject to permissions).. Enjoy a traditional Zanskari dinner with a local family (opportunity to experience butter tea!).
Day 5: Return Journey Begins - Padum to Kargil: After breakfast, begin the journey back to Kargil.. Enjoy the scenic drive along the Suru River once more.. Check-in to your hotel in Kargil.. Evening at leisure.
Day 6: Kargil to Delhi: Early morning departure from Kargil.. Overnight journey back to Delhi by AC Volvo/Tempo Traveler.. Dinner stop en-route (self-paid).
Day 7: Arrival in Delhi: Arrive in Delhi in the morning, completing your unforgettable Zanskar Valley adventure with Travelers Nest.. Disembarkation point will be same as the starting point.
